Nursery Reveal

We are so stinkin' excited to meet our little bundle of joy! Take a look at a few pics from his future abode!

Here's the fabric (Kate Spain Central Park Zoo)
we used as a launching point for the zoo themed nursery.

My favorite part of the room? The spring loaded mid century rocking chair that we picked up for $10 last year at an estate sale!

How awesome is my mother in law for making baby such a cute crib set?

Nick built this cubby, modeled after this, much more expensive version from Pottery Barn Kids.
We painted it in Benjamin Moore's Spectra Blue 2049-50.

This is an Ikea dresser with lemon yellow knobs that cost $2.50 a piece from Hobby Lobby.

Goodwill shelf, spray painted in Avocado Green

Nick's first baby sneakers :) Oh, and yes that is a unicorn and it belonged my husband and his siblings. I can't help but sing, "My horn can pierce the sky!" when I look at it. 5 bucks if you get that reference ;)

Wonder who he'll look like...

Our cross stitch pictures from when we were babies. These are practically antiques, I tell ya!

We're ready for you, baby!

The Best Laid Plans of Mice and Men... and Stephanie

Hey friends! It's been a while. Sorry for the silence. Life has actually been anything but silent on our end! We have just returned from a lovely week-long trip to visit Nick's fam in Chicago. Graduations, a bridal shower, household projects, wrapping things up at work, and actually getting to know people in our new neck of the woods have kept me away from the blogging world, but fear not! I'm back:)

So, you'll remember that just a few posts ago, I talked about doing a forest themed nursery for baby. Well, the adorable owl fabric I so loved for the crib bedding sold out and I was forced to move in another direction. You may be thinking, "I thought she was doing stripes and leaves for the bedding..." I was planning on that, but the owls won my heart, then broke my heart and now I have settled on a new theme that is, in my opinion, very fun.

Without further ado, I give you: The Zoo!

My mom is really excited about all things monkey for baby and I can't deny these little critters are a great launching point for the whole nursery. I sort of kind of also really, really love the fact that zoo is a broader theme than merely jungle or forest because you can incorporate animals from every habitat:)

Moda Central Park Zoo Animal Fabric

A few teasers for what is in store and what I hope to incorporate:

Zoo Animals, Set of 3 by Etsy seller happysquashtoys, $32

Morning Zoo Curtain Panels from The Land of Nod, $25-$45

Kay Bojensen Denmark 1959 Zoo Line Hippo Box from Etsy seller antiqueaddictions, $49

Happy Springtime Flag Banner by Etsy seller starlitnestgifts, $42

We are going to use this teal blue, mid-century chair (a $10 estate sale find from a while back) as the nursery rocker. It rocks quite nicely and adds some more vintage flair to the room!

As far as a rug for baby to crawl on goes, since we have hardwood floors throughout the house, and large rugs can be so expensive, my parents suggested going to a discount carpet warehouse type of place and asking them to bind and sell a large remnant piece for us. Brilliant! Has anyone ever done something like this? I'm curious to know if it ends up being a good deal.

That's all for now. Stay tuned as we put the nursery together!
