Popping In to Say "Hi!"

Hello friends,

I hope you are enjoying your long weekend. We have just wrapped up the second of two very fun grandparent visits and many a house project. Collin was, again, showered with fun gifts and we, of course, enjoyed having extra hands around the house. I will say, however, that slowing down a bit this weekend and just laying low as a family is exactly what the doctor ordered. We are pooped!

Thought I'd throw up a few fun pics of life around our home, as of late. I'll let you know right now that I'm not anticipating the energy to do any more blogging until later this week. I'm sure you're all off on mini-vacations or tackling projects yourselves. :)

Finally got our vintage pull down, school map up on the living room wall. This was a steal on Ebay and it really does solve the problem of what to put up on a ginourmous wall! Seeing as how it's a US map, not much has changed geography-wise and I feel myself getting smarter just by sitting under it every day;)

Collin's slide fort from my parents. He loves hiding in it mostly. Going down the slide still takes a bit of coaxing, but we'll get there. :)

Finally, I think this photo is the sweetest example of Collin's love for all of his animals. He sleeps with at least six stuffed buddies every night and is so darn cute with them. Here he is, wrapping up Peter Rabbit like a baby in a kitchen towel.

Enjoy your time off, friends!

Vintage Picture Walls

I love the romance of old pictures! Lately I've been toying with the idea of entirely covering an accent wall with framed black and white pictures, like a gallery. Here's the thing... I love the look, but am having a hard time deciding if I'm okay with pictures of strangers from yesteryears in my house... Is that creepy or okay for art's sake? I mean, I do have a handful of old family pictures, but definitely not enough to make this kind of magic happen:

I especially love old class pictures or sports team pictures. An easy way to get a lot of photos to frame, for cheap? Buy a year book from the 40's or 50's at an antique mall or flea market!

Vintage Schoolhouse Rock

Recently I have begun to notice that I am drawn to things that remind me of school. A fresh bouquet of Ticonderoga No. 2  pencils, the color of aged green chalkboards, and the sheen of a nicely waxed floor. I guess I'm just a nostalgic person. Who can resist the industrial and utilitarian charm of this mid-century style?

One of the first objects I purchased for our apartment when we were living in Midtown was an awesome old school clock that looks a lot like this:

The possibilities are endless! Here are a few shots of vintage schoolhouse inspired rooms:
