My $7 Entryway Makeover

So, yesterday I ventured out to run an errand and found myself lured by the fluorescent garage and estate sale signs on many a street corner in Marietta. What a delight to have scored a bundle of beautiful vintage upholstry fabric for $1, a pale blue bulletin board for $1 and the best..... A 1940's (possibly older) Royal Typewriter for $5. I know! How wonderful is that?! The gentleman hosting the garage sale didn't want to haul it in his move, so it was a win-win situation.

"A British Woven Union Linen Screen Print" is written across the bottom of the fabric panels.

I rushed home and gathered a few items I already owned, plus my new finds and made over our entry way. To affix the linen to the bulletin board, I used brass upholstry nails (they run you about $2 at a hardware store).

Voila! And only for $7... I am a happy woman:)

Vacay Follow-Up

For those that were wondering how Florida was, here is a shot of all of us girls in St. Augustine (the oldest city in the US)! It was one of the cloudier days, so we decided to forgo the beach and head north. I love these ladies. They have walked through thick and thin with me and we sure do have a great deal of fun together.

Projects with Vintage Wallpaper

Does the thought of wallpapering a wall make you cringe? Have you just recovered from the 48+ hour project of scraping horrendous 80's country geese paper off your kitchen walls? There are plenty of beautiful, vintage wallpapers-- worth reviving in unexpected (and, perhaps, less permenant) ways.

I have a lovely roll of vintage, damask wall paper that I used to make May Day baskets for the ends of the church pews at my wedding last May (see below). Our wonderful florist and family friend, Mary, put the flowers in little beakers of water-- keeping them fresh and pretty in their wallpaper cones!

I'm trying to decide what to do with the rest of the wallpaper roll, so I'll share some ideas I've found while seeking inspiration.

Spring Break, Vintage Style

It's that time of the year again. Time to come out of hybernation and bare your pasty white legs to the world! Eeek! In all seriousness, there are few things quite as American as a good old spring trip to the coast after a long winter.
On Saturday morning I'm heading to Florida to spend a few sun-filled days with four of my best friends form college. Each spring we take a trip together (one year it was New York, one year it was Nashiville) and this year it's the Orange State. These ladies are my dearest friends and we love these opportunities to catch up, eat yummy breakfast food at greasy spoon diners, browse boutiques, and of course bask in the rays!

In the spirit of spring break and all things americana, I've assembled some lovely vintage finds that evoke seaside vacations and the advent of summer (I can't wait for summer)!

La La Lamptastic

Hey everyone! I've been sort of MIA in the blogosphere for the past few days. We painted our sunroom and living room and it looks delightful! Pictures are on the way! I'm inspired to spend next weekend creating and recreating lighting with vintage lamps and upcycled materials. Below are some of my recent sources of inspiration...
Click here to find out how to make a vintage-style cork lamp.

Amazing bowl lamps, read about how to make your own at Country Living.

I can't get over the cuteness of these vintage teacup lamps from Domestic Construction.

These LOVELY hanging pendant lamps were made out of vintage tea tins! Read about it here.

These beauties are made entirely from paperclips! Check out Redesign Technologies on Etsy.

Design Sponge did a DIY article on Mason Jar Lanterns a few years back. Read how here.

And, of course, there's always the good old miracle that a can of spray paint and a new shade will work on an old, tired lamp. Read the DIY article here. Now it's off to light up our world in creative, new ways!

Homage to Laura Ashley, with a Twist

It's starting to feel like spring and that makes me think about sunshine and flowers and baby chics (over the top, I know, but don't stop reading yet...) AND Laura Ashley curtains blowing in the wind. I think what I have always loved about the Laura Ashley line is its unabashed femininity throughout the decades. She made homey, soft, floral, comfy, sweet designs...

I distincly remember my favorite outfit in 3th grade was a faded jean jumper over a floral blouse with a lace collar and a pair of brown leather ankle boots. I was really hoping I looked like a Laura Ashley model (my early 90's feathered, poofy bangs probably didn't help, but a girl can dream!). In the spirit of the late, great Welsh designer, I have compiled a few room inspiration shots. They all incorporate vintage elements, femenine touches with a punch, and current LA products. Enjoy!
